Mesothelioma symptoms or no signs until, after exposure to asbestos are 20 or more. Common signs and symptoms initially affecting pleural mesothelioma patients are as follows :
- Chest wall pain
- Pleural effusion, or fluid surrounding the lung
- Shortness of breath
- Fatigue or anemia
- Wheezing, hoarseness, or cough

Whereas in severe cases of the disease, possible signs and symptoms of the following may be present:
- Blood clots in the veins, which may cause Thrombophlebitis
- Disseminated intravascular coagulation,
- disorder causing severe bleeding in many body organs
- Jaundice, or yellowing of the eyes and skin,
- low sugar levels in the blood
- pleural effusion
- Pulmonary embolism, or blood clots in the arteries of the lungs
- severe ascite
